Skin Tag Removal

Skin tag removal does not have to be a large procedure as long as they're small, you can probably do it yourself.

Skin tags are pieces of skin that are growing outward from the skin instead of flat like a mole, usually occurring at middle age, they can show up as early as just after birth, but are more likely in older individuals who are possibly obese, or have diabetes. Most of them remain small, but sometimes they can grow to the size of golf balls. It's important if you have skin tags that you monitor them carefully, they're not usually cancerous and are considered benign, but they can grow in areas that are easily irritated.

You'll often see them in folds of the skin such as the eyelids, around the ears and the cheeks, the neck, under the arms, in the groin area, and behind the knees. If you can catch them when they're tiny, you can remove them yourself with a small pair of scissors, fingernail clippers, or even toenail clippers. Just make sure that whatever you're going to use is sterilized, and then clean the area thoroughly with antibacterial soap. This way, you're not introducing bacteria into the open skin; they'll usually heal quickly as long as they're tiny.

It doesn't hurt much, if you catch them when they're little, not much more than plucking your eyebrows or pricking your self with a sharp object. The big thing to remember is that if they're going to bleed, you need to talk to your doctor before you remove them yourself to make sure that you're following the proper procedure.

Anything larger needs to be professionally done. In other words, you will have larger nerves and a larger blood supply to anything that's larger than a centimeter thick, and it can be dangerous to try to remove these types by yourself not to mention painful.

Skin tag removal from your doctor is usually not covered by health care. They're considered noncancerous, and a cosmetic procedure. Your doctor may use cauterizing, freezing, or perhaps remove them by cutting them off. It's up to you whether you want anesthetic or not, discuss with your doctor as to whether you may need it or not, but it can reduce the overall cost.

There are natural remedies for skin tag removal, just make sure that you're preparing the natural remedy correctly and applying it correctly. Many of the natural remedies or over-the-counter medication will be irritating to your skin. If it is in a fold of the skin it can be difficult to keep the preparation, where it needs to be and not spreading throughout the fold causing major irritation.
